Linfield College Adult Degree Program Announces High Alumni Satisfaction Among Graduates of Online Professional Programs

McMinnville, Ore – April 30, 2013 The 2013 Linfield Adult Degree Program Graduates Survey measured the opinions of alumni who completed their bachelor’s degree online in Accounting, Management, and Nursing over the past five years. Most of the respondents are employed fulltime and are between 25 and 54 years of age.

The survey was conducted by the Center for Research and Consulting of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) at Linfield’s request.

Survey results show that 84% to 87% of the online professional program graduates are either very or extremely satisfied with their Linfield College experience.

When asked how well Linfield prepared them for their career, nearly 4 out of 5 of the graduates felt that Linfield did very or extremely well.  With 97% to 100% of the graduates responding favorably about how Linfield prepared them for their career, 81% of the Management and 79% of the Accounting and Nursing graduates reported being very or extremely well prepared.

For many alumni, employment after graduation was not an issue as they were already employed, but most of those not already employed either found jobs in a reasonable amount of time or went on to graduate school.

95% of the Linfield Online RN to BSN Nursing graduates found employment soon after graduation or were already employed when they completed the BSN degree. Of the Management graduates, 86% found employment in their field of interest fairly quickly or were already employed while finishing the degree. Accounting graduates reported that 72% secured a job in their field of interest soon after graduation or were already employed when they completed the degree. An additional 7% of Accounting and Management graduates reported finding employment in their field of interest after a longer period of time following graduation.

Many Accounting degree graduates reported that Linfield’s online program offered in an asynchronous format is a key strength. They also rank the quality of instruction and class materials very highly, and said the staff is very helpful and offers substantial support.

“The graduates’ verbatim responses suggest that these qualities are what enable full-time workers to earn or finish a degree, and thus make the program very appealing for professionals and nontraditional students,” said Jim Fong, Director of the UPCEA Center for Research and Consulting, who conducted the Linfield survey.

“I took most of my classes online and that was a real strength for me.  The instructors had great outlines/notes and led the class at a speed that I could keep up with while raising my daughter and working full-time,” reported an accounting degree graduate.

Many Management degree graduates cited the greatest strengths of the online program to be the quality of the instruction and coursework. Many also value the flexibility and online format, the helpful and supportive staff, and the well-rounded curriculum.

“The graduates’ responses suggest that these qualities enable the program to be flexible because of its online nature, yet personal and connected because of the quality and support of the faculty and staff,” according to Fong.

“The business courses are remarkable and taught very well.” reported a management graduate.

Many Nursing degree graduates reported the greatest strength of the RN to BSN program is in its flexibility to fit around busy schedules.  Another strong aspect of the Nursing program is the high quality of instructors and coursework.

“The verbatim responses suggest that the communication, involvement, and commitment of the faculty and staff provide a sense of community in the online program, while still allowing the students to learn in their own time,” stated Fong.

“Online learning made it possible to work full time while going to school,” reported a nursing graduate.

“Leaders in the business and professional world respect Linfield graduates because they bring valuable skills and have a high work ethic,” said Dr. Martha Van Cleave, Acting Director of the Adult Degree Program. “We thank our alumni for these valuable insights into their Linfield experience which help us make our programs even better,” said Van Cleave.
